What is CAN-DO HONOLULU?
Honolulu wants to hear from citizens’ about their ideas on how to improve the way we operate, be more cost efficient and improve services. We believe that technology can be used to assist us in making the right decisions. One idea is to provide citizen access to raw government data that the public can use to help analyze options and identify opportunities. Releasing public data in a downloadable, useable format is one of those options. Some of this data is already available, but not easy to find, not easy to download and therefore not easy to analyze. But CAN-DO will bring data and information together in one searchable website. Making this data readily available means it will be easier for people to make decisions and suggestions about government practices based on actual detail. New data will be posted to the website on a regular basis. Our goal is to receive your input. How can I use the data?
You can use the data in all sorts of ways. This may be simply to analyze trends make comparisons between agencies, or develop complex analytical models to provide guidance not otherwise available. Armed with comprehensive information about the needs of Honolulu we hope to engage citizen technologists to build the perfect technology solutions to help us be a more productive and a smarter city. Technical users will be able to create useful applications out of the raw data files with our hope that these applications will be shared amongst fellow citizens. How much does it cost to use the data?
Zero. The data is provided to the public without any service charge.
